The Business Development Manager is a full-time position at our Carlsbad Headquarters near San Diego with significant growth potential. You will work with a dedicated sales team and a group of experienced optical engineers/scientists to enable new, exciting imaging applications in the high-growth areas of medical devices, driverless cars, smart agriculture, robotic visions, and AR/VR systems.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborative Growth: Work closely with sales management and optical experts to identify and close significant business opportunities in targeted markets and establish strategic partnerships that drive revenue growth.
- Profitable Execution: Develop and execute business plans focusing on revenue and profit growth. Penetrate new markets and applications to achieve ambitious company targets.
- Market Insights: Provide crucial market feedback to company leadership, staying ahead of competitive offerings, market trends, and prospect needs to fuel continuous product development.
- Networking Mastery: Participate in trade shows and conferences to network with thought leaders and influencers and generate high-value sales leads.

Requirements:

The Customer Service Representative reports to the VP of Sales is an integral part of our Team Selling Approach, and is responsible for a broad spectrum of pre and post-sales customer and sales support:
Responsibilities:
- Front-line Customer-centric Sales representative comfortable speaking or emailing with Customers from around the globe.
- Sending quotations / proforma invoices for the standard products to Customers and Distributors
- Interfacing regularly with Sales Managers to facilitate new orders and support post-sales activity.
- Booking orders into Sunex’s orders system.
- Checking POs for correct Terms and Conditions and verifying pricing and delivery terms with the appropriate Sales Manager.
- Requesting schedule updates for open orders from Factory and conveying confirmed ship dates and ship date changes to and from Customer
- “Gatekeeping” responsibilities for online orders and inquiries
- Maintenance of customer email “blast” database
- Maintenance of customer newsletter mailing list
- Management of “house accounts”
- Coordination of Distributor ordering and shipping schedules and weekly sync meetings
Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills
- Friendly customer-service orientated attitude/personality
- Great computer skills including Office Suite products including Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc, are required.
- Minimum 2-3 years customer service or sales background required. 3-5 years CSR or CSM role and experience with a physical [technical] product is preferred.
- College education in a STEM field is preferred
- Multi-lingual is a plus
- Experience with NetSuite and CRM systems are preferred
- High attention to detail and very organized work habits a must
The Applications Engineer – Optics will report to the VP of Sales and Marketing in our Carlsbad, CA location. In this position, you will be responsible for growing sales and customers relationships with existing customers across various global markets and expanding into emerging markets and new applications where possible. No cold calling is required.
Responsibilities:
- Customer-facing (online and in-person), technically-focused Applications Engineer responsible for all aspects of the sales funnel including the recommendation of possible technical solutions, providing quotations, and closing sales.
- Technical support in helping solve customer issues and recommend Sunex Products/Solutions
- Work with existing and potential customers and partners to generate and close new sales.
- Business Development targeting emerging, non-automotive market verticals such as Medical, Off-Highway Vehicle, and Computer Vision/Robotics.
- Participate in tradeshows and generate new sales leads
- Contribute to group technical and sales activities/goals
- Be a liaison between customers and our manufacturing operations in China
Requirements:
The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:
- BS or MS degree in optics, EE, or physics with optics or imaging concentration
- 1-5 years experience and a successful track record in sales, customer service, or customer-facing engineering role
- Self-motivated and organized “Hunter/Closer” with a high-level and strategic mindset
- Project management experience and overseas travel experience a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to take on new challenges and to grow with our company.

- Legal to work in the US.
The Senior Optical Lens Designer will be located in our Carlsbad, CA location. You will be working with a team of talented engineers and scientists to design the next-generation lenses for advanced imaging and projection applications. Aligned with Sunex’s team selling approach you will also be working with and supporting our technical sales team to solve technically challenging problems, drive innovative optical solutions, and join customer-facing meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed imaging lens design using Zemax or Code V
- Perform advanced optical coating analysis
- Provide technical solutions to potential customers from a wide variety of industries including automotive, medical, security, IoT, VR/AR, and robotics.
- Participate in trade shows and identify potential leads
- Contribute to group technical and sales activities
- Visit customers/partners onsite within the US and abroad
- Be a liaison between customers and our manufacturing operations in China
Requirements
The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:
- BS or MS degree in optics, EE, or physics with optics or imaging concentration
- Minimum 5 years of lens design experience in the industry.
- Proficiency in Zemax or Code V or similar optical design software
- Demonstrated background in imaging optics or digital imaging systems
- Knowledge or experience in optical coating is a plus
- Knowledge of optical manufacturing and testing processes
- Project management and overseas travel experience a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to take on new challenges and to grow with our company.
- A team player in an entrepreneurial environment
- US citizen or permanent resident
