Smart Agriculture

Imaging and camera technology have revolutionized smart agriculture by introducing autonomy into mobile farm equipment and giving farmers real-time insights into their crops, livestock, and overall farm conditions. Drones equipped with high-resolution cameras or multispectral sensors are used to capture aerial images of large farming areas, and ground-based camera systems, including those mounted on autonomous vehicles, play an important role in precision farming, analyzing soil conditions, crop growth, and even identify individual plant health.

These technologies have started to become ubiquitous, helping farmers manage time, monitor crop health, detect pests, and identify areas that require irrigation or fertilization. Powerful imaging hardware is often paired with innovative AI software to allow farmers to quickly assess and respond to issues before they become widespread, thus improving crop yields and reducing costs associated with chemical treatments and water usage.

Sunex is partnering directly with the companies developing the technology and equipment driving the smart agriculture revolution. Sunex’s optical design and manufacturing know-how is a key factor in achieving their goals, from large global corporations to younger start-up companies with novel approaches.

Feature Products

There is no specific group of “agriculture” lenses since the application field and requirements are so broad. Besides custom design for high-end applications, we often find that many of our automotive lenses are an excellent fit for all autonomy-related applications, and our security, robotics, and computer vision offerings are used in many of the crop-managed related technologies.

Camera Module Assembly
We can provide design and manufacturing services for a complete sensor module, depending on the requirements. We strive to find the best solution for your needs, from designing the schematic, creating the PCB layout, and sourcing all components to building according to your PCB design and parts consignment.
At Sunex, we have the in-house expertise and capabilities for lens and sensor board design, high-volume manufacturing, automated active alignment, and testing to support the most demanding vision applications.

Active Alignment Capabilities
We recommend that our customers consider an active alignment process to achieve the highest system performance when pairing a high-quality lens with a high-resolution sensor. Our active alignment offering can grow with the ramp of the program and enables the use of an alignment process from the beginning. Applying a fully automated 6-axis active alignment in mass production increases yield, shortens cycle times, improves system performance, and lowers part-to-part variance.

Fast Prototyping
We provide prototyping services for complete lens assemblies often as the first step after a new custom design.
Sunex can produce prototypes with short lead times to verify the design before transitioning further on the path to mass production using state-of-the-art fabrication processes for glass and plastic optical elements and all mechanical components.
